Every CSAW student works toward these six certificates as part of the program. Here is what each one covers.
The foundations of front-line support work: person-centred care, clear communication, professional ethics, and helping people with daily living so they can stay as independent as possible.
How to recognize when a situation is escalating and calm it safely, using de-escalation techniques that protect the person you support, your co-workers, and yourself.
The safe, accurate way to help clients with their medications: the checks to make every time, how to document what was given, and what to do if something goes wrong.
How to respond in an emergency: CPR and AED use, choking, bleeding, burns, and sudden illness, so you can act while you wait for help to arrive.
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System training: reading hazard symbols, labels, and safety data sheets, and handling products safely on the job.
How to support a person living with dementia: understanding what they are going through, and responding to their behaviour with patience and respect.
